Ryerson University was founded in 1948 as Ryerson Institute of Technology. Established primarily as a training ground for the growing workforce of a booming post-war economy, the Institute was a novel alternative to the traditional apprenticeship system of technical learning. Ryerson University offers 12 undergraduate degree programs that are unique among Canadian universities: Arts and Contemporary Studies; Disability Studies; Early Childhood Education; Fashion (English-speaking); Graphic Communications Management; Health Information Management (degree-completion); Health Services Management; Image Arts; International Economics and Finance; Occupational and Public Health (Occupational Health and Safety option); Radio and Television; and Retail Management.
