The University of Oslo is Norway’s largest and oldest institution of higher education. It was founded in 1811 when Norway was still under Danish rule. Today the University of Oslo has approx. 30,000 students and 4,600 employees. Four Nobel Prize winners indicate the quality of the research at the University. The University of Oslo prides itself in a long tradition of international co-operation, with some of the finest educational institutions in the world: around 500 bilateral agreements and co-operation projects across Europe and on every continent. In keeping with national priorities, the University of Oslo's international policy focuses strongly on solidarity and participation in global development, as well as high international standards. Today, some 800 courses and more than 40 master degree programmes are available in English at the University of Oslo.
