The University of Valparaíso (UV) was established in 1981, as a state-funded public institution, following the economic reforms to create public regional universities, undertaken under the Chilean military rule which lasted until 1990. UV aims to generate and disseminate knowledge, cultivating the arts, sciences, humanities and technologies, through the development of undergraduate teaching , postgraduate studies, and research, as well as providing skills and values to train graduates, professionals and researchers in a framework of quality and commitment to regional and national development, promoting its sustainability.
