Certain South African universities, of which the UFS is one, has an exemption agreement with the Institute/Faculty of Actuaries to recommend students who perform at a certain standard to obtain exemptions for the Core Technical (CT) series subjects. Prospective students can be recommended for exemptions in CT1, CT2, CT3, CT4, CT6, and CT7 after obtaining the degree, as well as for CT5 and CT8 after completing the honours degree. After a candidate has obtained the relevant degrees, such a candidate must also pass the prescribed examinations of the Joint Board of the Institute of Actuaries (London) and the Faculty of Actuaries (Edinburgh) to qualify as a fully-fledged actuary.
