Italian Language and Culture | Summer / Short course | Languages | Blended Learning | 5 weeks | UC Berkeley Summer Sessions | USA
Develop your Italian language skills and virtually immerse yourself in the rich history and culture of Italy this summer.
Our program focuses on two very special cities in the Italian North-East: Trieste, a coastal city with a long history of intercultural exchange among Latin, Slavic, and Germanic cultures, and Venice, one of the world’s most famous and most visited places.
During the 5-week program, students will learn Italian with the help of Italian native speaker instructors teaching from those very cities. Additionally, students will learn about the history of Italy’s shifting borders and the various cultural, ethnic, and linguistic communities still inhabiting the peninsula. The course content will span from Venice’s maritime empire and its role in the Mediterranean to Trieste’s multicultural historic and social background to today’s debate on Italian national identity and citizenship rights.
