Microbiology is common and essential in all areas related to biotechnology, biomedical sciences and environmental sciences, since microorganisms play a main role in the transformation of organic material, in geochemical changes and in human and animal infectious diseases. Furthermore, microorganisms are found everywhere: from geothermal vents in the ocean depths, to the coldest arctic ice, to every persons skin. This makes undeniable the importance of microbiology in quality control and production of food, industry, environmental and health.
The main objective of the Master of Advanced Microbiology is to train students academically and technically to be able to start a research in the Microbiology area or to develop a professional work as microbiologist. The Master program impinges specially in the integrative and multidisciplinary training of students. Therefore, we consider very important the experimental work in clinical laboratories, universities or research centres, carried out by the students under the guidance of a specialist in microbiology. This training represent a third of total Master credits.
