Given the educational challenges involved in building new projects for peaceful coexistence in the context of the global crisis, education in values and citizenship is increasingly important if we are to learn to live together in multicultural, interlinked global societies. The financial crisis has raised questions about social cohesion and the fundamental values of citizenship in democratic societies. Globalization and social networks also pose new challenges for the shaping of identities, as digital identity now coexists with personal and social identities more deeply rooted in places and cultures. Whether our focus is microscopic, detecting widespread concern over a crisis of values, or we take a more macroscopic view, we are addressing an age-old issue in the history of human interaction that calls for urgent attention through social and educational research and through the efforts of education professionals. The increasing complexity and diversity of contemporary society requires a social model of integration that can ensure the prevalence of a shared public culture founded on pluralism, as the cornerstone of a social, political and cultural project that acknowledges difference. This master's degree therefore aims to meet the challenges of today's society by providing students with the tools to shape progress towards universal social responsibility.
