Master's Degree in Digital Humanities | Master's degree | Media & Communications | On Campus | Universitat de Barcelona | Spain
The humanities and social sciences adapt to the contemporary era and broaden their research and dissemination potential through the use of digital tools: this development has created the discipline referred to as digital humanities. This masters degree introduces students to the most advanced digital techniques. We train advanced professionals who will contribute to research in the humanities and help society at large to gain a better understanding and make a better use of our cultural heritage.
The digital humanities is a new discipline at the intersection of humanities and social sciences research and new computer tools. It is divided into three main areas. First, the acquisition of technical skills and competences for the processing, preservation, dissemination and use of humanistic knowledge in digital environments. Second, the reflection on the role of digital environments in the production of digital objects and knowledge. And third, critical analysis of the impact of technologies on society, the concept of authorship and the political agenda, as well as the contribution of humanistic knowledge to the digital society.
This masters degree aims to train professionals specialized in the design of original and innovative applications or projects in the field of digital humanities and in digital heritage management. Students must be experts in the use of different technologies and types of digital data representation, in digital technologies for processing of different kinds of data and in the applicable regulations on authorship, use, reproduction and dissemination of digital knowledge and objects.
