This course allows students to achieve an understanding of early insular culture as a whole, while also specialising in aspects of particular interest to them, although primarily a research degree, formal teaching is offered in the form of a series of weekly text seminars in each term, plus meetings with a supervisor; students also choose to follow at least 1 undergraduate class, in order to acquire or enhance disciplines appropriate to their research subject (e.g. History, palaeofraphy, languages, philology, textual criticism).
