The combination of Arabic and religious studies is designed to develop your interest in, and knowledge and understanding of, the Arabic-speaking world, past and present. This programme looks at Arabic language, literature, culture and history, as well as all aspects of the interpretation of religion including theories and methodologies for studying religion with an emphasis on Islam. You will learn from the perspective that religions, literatures and cultures influence many if not most human endeavours for good or ill. Working and learning with international scholars, you will study Arabic language, theoretical and methodological approaches to the study of religion and to the study of the history, literature and culture of the Arabic-speaking world. You will also develop an understanding of the main phenomena of religion, such as belief systems, rituals, mythology and iconography outwith the Arab world. Graduates will be capable of acting as bridges of understanding and conduits of knowledge between Arabic and British cultures.
