Infectious Diseases | Bachelor's degree | Science | On Campus | 4 years | The University of Edinburgh | United Kingdom

Studying biomedical sciences involves the study of the processes behind human health and disease. Developments in the field drive and guide improvements in medical practice. Infectious disease is a major challenge to society in the developed and developing worlds. Our infectious diseases programme investigates the microorganisms that can cause disease in humans and animals and how a host responds to infection. It brings together the study of bacteriology, virology, immunology and molecular biology. You will study the interaction between microorganisms and hosts, infection processes and how microbes cause disease. This knowledge can then be applied to the development of prevention and therapeutic strategies such as antibiotics, antiviral agents and vaccines.
