Our local, regional, national, and continental environments have changed, and our societies are more open than ever. At the same time, these transformations have caused the rise of movements that oppose or promote deeper changes. This is an exciting period in our History when it comes to political and social transformations: the expansion of democracy, the fight for the survival of authoritarian leaders and governments, the emergence of religious fundamentalism, the proliferation of populist movements, the strengthening of international collaboration and integration, the victory of global capitalism - all of these things are taking place around us, and have a deep impact in our lives.
