This course is designed both for professional translators and interpreters wishing to obtain a formal qualification, and for language graduates wishing to become translators or undertake further research studies. The course combines theoretical and practical training and makes use of state-of-the-art translation and interpreting facilities. The course consists of a combination of core modules and optional modules which provide professionally-relevant training, giving students the option to specialise in either interpreting, audio-visual translation or literary translation between English and 1 of the following languages: Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Portuguese, Russian, Slovene, Serbian/Croatian, Spanish (though it should be noted that not all 3 options are available for all languages). Supervision for the targeted translation project is available in a wide range of areas offering research guidance and advice from specialist staff. Students also have regular opportunities to meet with professional translators.
