Fashion is one of the largest and most dynamic sectors in the UK, employing over 800,000 people and directly contributing to over £20bn to the economy each year. This means that the communication strategies of brands are crucial for the continuing success of the industry, in the UK and in an international context.
Thus course introduces you to a range of multi-channel media communication methods, while exploring the importance of brand identity, evolving consumer markets and the role of fashion in contemporary society. You’ll gain the skills for a career in the fashion industry and develop the creative and technical ability to produce original visual and textual materials for promotion across integrated media platforms
Students will have opportunities to work with major brands on live projects, alongside students from other creative disciplines giving real industry experience. A short internship or highly focused 12-month work placement is also possible at the end of the second year. There is also the chance to take part in national and international trips to cities known for their cutting edge approach to fashion and retail, such as London, New York, Copenhagen and Los Angeles.
Course teaching is based on the idea of knowledge exchange and students are encouraged to actively participate in their learning in an open and honest educational environment.
The focus is on developing transferable skills such as research, analysis, communication, visual presentation, professional presentation, styling, enterprise and reflective practice. There is a strong focus on working with social media and its professional application with fashion businesses and enterprises.
