Wits' Bachelors in Insurance & Risk Management is offered only from the second year of a 3-year undergraduate degree. A pre-requisite is the Economics education programme. During the second year of a student's undergraduate education (the first year of this programme), students gain a broad-based knowledge of insurance and risk management, with the essential elements for managing risk; the concept of risk; insurance law; premiums; and physical and moral hazards.
During the last year of this Bachelors in Insurance & Risk Management, students build on their theoretical basis, concentrating on applying the theories they've learned to real scenarios. This year, students are also introduced to the economic theory of managing insurance and risk; risk aversion; risk financing methods; risk pools; and the economics of risk.
