Masters in Arts and Culture: Comparative Arts and Media Studies | Master's degree | Art & Design | On Campus | 1 year | Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam | Netherlands

The programme Comparative Arts and Media Studies focuses on the in-betweenness and crossovers in modern and contemporary visual culture. By this we mean the interrelations within and between various old and new media, but also between media and visual arts. These have been intensified with the arrival of digital media and of the “hypermedium” that arises from the on-screen interplay of words, images, and sounds and through the technological convergences of cinema, television, radio, and digital media. Our programme offers historical and theoretical perspectives on these phenomena while also taking into account real-life developments in the field of museum practices. Our students have had careers in education and research, media companies, and art institutions.
