Civil Engineering - Structural Engineering | Bachelor's degree | Engineering & Technology | On Campus | Western University | Canada
Civil engineering is focused on a number of areas of specialization including environmental engineering, structural engineering, geotechnical engineering, hydraulic engineering, and municipal engineering.Civil engineering courses involve consideration of geology and soil mechanics (geotechnical engineering) for the design of building foundations, dams, walls, slopes, tunnels, and waste disposal facilities; the study of fluid mechanics; municipal engineering; case studies, which examine past successes and failures and provide students with an opportunity to learn from real-life experience; and a civil engineering design course which allows students to design an engineering facility similar to that which they would be expected to design when they graduate. The design project allows students to gain experience working with professional engineers and develop a network of contacts for future employment.
