In some US states up to a third of the population is Spanish-speaking, which significantly affects American business and other contacts. For Canada, Spanish is becoming more important every day given the participation of Mexico in NAFTA.The study of Linguistics introduces the student to the role of language in society, modes of second language acquisition, the deep structure of language, the psychology of the linguistic process and many other aspects of human communication in connection with Spanish.
