The level 5 HND in Performing Arts (Dance) is aimed at combining creative and professional units to equip you with the skills and knowledge you need to work in the performing arts. You will be tutored by teachers and practitioners working in the field with experience and knowledge across the industry.
The course has been developed in order to cover a broad range of skills and develop your understanding of contemporary dance practice. In your first year you will study units that will develop a solid grounding in dance technique and performance such as:
•Developing Contemporary Dance
•Jazz Dance
•Ballet
•Street and Commercial Dance
You will also study choreography and improvisation, giving you the opportunity to create your own work and perform in an array of different locations.
In the second year, units will give you the opportunity to solidify your creative and professional practice.
You will have opportunities to work on site specific performance and dance for camera projects. Additionally, you will also develop skills and knowledge related to dance within education and gain opportunities to gain valuable experience leading workshops within educational settings. Alongside these specialist units you will also undertake units such as Creative Arts Research Skills and Creative Arts Professional Practice which are aimed at ensuring you have a strong understanding of the industry and how to find work.
The course also includes work experience placements as well as numerous theatre visits and a residential trip.
