Music, Technology and Performance BA (Hons) | Bachelor's degree | Art & Design | On Campus | 36 months | De Montfort University | United Kingdom
Music, Technology and Performance is not a conventional music performance course. You will not have lessons on an instrument or perform traditional repertoire. Instead, you will combine skills in music performance and passion for technology to create your own original music and new, innovative ways of performing.
You will explore aspects of performance, such as improvisation, and the role of the human body, alongside and in relation to new technologies - from electronic-instrument building and appropriated technology, to human-computer interaction. Your studies will investigate the many forms of performance, including site-specific and installation work, live performance with film, interactions with other artists, and the relationship between the recording and performing musician.
The theoretical aspect to this course will allow you to inspire your creative vision and link your music meaningfully to the world, through study of digital and post-digital history and aesthetics. Based on your goals, you will choose specific compositional, technical and theoretical topics to research in greater depth.
This course is taught by internationally recognised, experienced musicians who are active performers, composers and researchers. Our graduates have gone on to work as composers, sound designers, performing and recording artists, session musicians, recording engineers, producers and audio technicians in a range of industries including music management, theatre, TV and radio content and production.
