Automotive Technology: Diesel Technology Associate in Science Degree | Associate's degree | Engineering & Technology | On Campus | 2 years | Fresno City College | USA
Today a shortage of diesel technicians and mechanics has the potential to cripple the truck-freight industry. To help reduce the technician shortage, Mack Trucks and Volvo Trucks are partnering with Fresno City College to offer a technician training program. The original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) are proud to introduce Technical Education Support (TES), is a new resource available for participating dealers to provide Fresno City College access to Volvo and Mack Trucks' specialized eLearning catalogue, training aids, and component purchasing discounts for their diesel program. This initiative provides graduates of the program a head-start going to work for a local Mack Truck and Volvo Truck dealership.
This program is designed to meet the diesel technology, parts technician, service consultant, and service advisor shortages in the truck and bus dealerships, and service, fleet, and maintenance facilities. Advanced technology vehicles including alternative fuel vehicles (AFVs), hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs), plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), and battery electric vehicles (BEVs) are a common platform for light, medium, and heavy-duty vehicles.
It is a 1200-hour program where students will train on powertrains, electrical and electronic systems, chassis components and software, and engine diagnosis and repair. Students will perform actual service and repair on vehicles in the state-of-the-art labs, using tools, and technologies that will ensure they are workforce ready and qualified for industry certifications. Students will work on Mack and Volvo vehicles in the laboratory and at the dealerships while completing the required work experience.
