There is a growing number of crisis and catastrophe situations that are plaguing populations today, and the demand for professionals with humanitarian response skills is increasing. Humanitarian Action can not only focus on responding to crisis situations but also seek to develop programs that can reduce the vulnerability of populations and minimize the impact of these situations. Facing this challenges requires a holistic understanding of situations, for which it is necessary to master different areas of knowledge. The Summer School in Humanitarian Action at the ISCTE-Instituto Universitário de Lisboa intends to capacitate its participants with general knowledge about alternative approaches to act in situations of humanitarian support, with a special focus on the capacity for reflection and identification of techniques and methods that are applicable in this scope. A holistic and multidisciplinary vision of the challenges of humanitarian action will be addressed, seeking the direct and active involvement of the participants.
