University of Gävle | Sweden

Established in 1977, the University of Gävle has expanded rapidly and currently comprises six departments that offer over 50 degree programmes and 800 elective courses. There are 13,000 registered students at the University of Gävle. Half of these students come from the surrounding region; the other half come from other parts of Sweden. Slightly over 50% of the students are female, and the number of students with ethnic backgrounds other than Swedish is increasing each year. The total number of employees is approximately 750. A high percentage of the academic staff has an international background, a fact that contributes to the university’s on-going process of internationalisation. There are five academic profile areas at the University of Gävle: – Mathematics, Natural Sciences, and Computer Science – Technology – Humanities and Social Sciences – Teacher Training – Health Care The cross-disciplinary study of social structures serves as a central theme within these profile areas, and contributes to a lively research environment. Moreover, extensive collaboration with colleges and universities, both nationally and internationally, extends research opportunities beyond the university’s own campus area.
