This course is a management-orientated practice-based course which covers a broad range of interrelated disciplines including domestic, commercial and civil construction. It focuses on several core subject areas, including Technology, measurement and estimating, project management, contracts administration, cost management and communication. Students are required to undertake a minimum of 80 days experience in the building industry prior to graduation. Practical experience is recorded in an official lofbook which is submitted to the Course Coordinator on completion. It is the responsibility of students to make their own arrangements for gaining the required experience, which may be undertaken during vacations or in employment while studying as a part-time student. Students are required to find their own placement however a central site allows industry reps to post opportunities and students can apply. There is an academic position - building Industry Experience Coordinator - who manages/coordinates and signs off on lof books for the students. This course qualifies graduates to work as project managers, quantity surveyors, construction managers, estimators, contract administrators and building surveyors.
