The Applied Outdoor Adventure programme enables you to obtain the knowledge and qualifications required for employment and careers in the adventure industry. You will study at a state of the art outdoor education centre within the heart of Exeter. This unique learning environment ensures that you will have hands on experience of working and operating within the real world of outdoor education. Throughout the programme you will be fully supported and encouraged to work towards and achieve your goals and ambitions. You will experience a variety of outdoor activities and work within an operational outdoor pursuits centre working with schools, colleges and the community, and therefore offering a broad range of opportunities to develop within the field of outdoor adventure. Employer involvement and hands on learning are integral to the programme. You will benefit from the college’s employer links, including Haven Banks Outdoor Education Centre and organisations such as PGL. The FdA programme in Applied Outdoor Adventure based at the iconic £5.6m Haven Banks Outdoor Education Centre which is situated in the heart of the city on Exeter Quay. The centre provides a unique facility that encompasses numerous classrooms all fully equipped with full IT facilities and an IT suite, 7m climbing wall, caving centre, 22m tower, dry and wet changing facilities and water front pontoon access alongside the centre for canoeing, kayaking, sailing, windsurfing and paddle boarding. This facility provides an outstanding base for the delivery of the FdA programme in Applied Outdoor Adventure. This operational setting allows students to study in a "real" work based setting in which they are regularly exposed to the reality of the Outdoor Industry. This provides a strong vocational grounding for the programme and allows access to a range of other opportunities which lie within the centre.
