Artificial Intelligence is one of the main research areas within our Computer Science department. PhD opportunities are aligned with the research interests of our academic staff and are broadly as follows: Human-robot interaction Autonomous intelligent robotics Machine learning, optimisation and data mining Knowledge representation, reasoning, and automated planning Natural Language processing and conversational agents Computer vision and graphics Intelligent interactive systems Autonomous synthetic characters Web intelligence Fault-tolerant robotics Evolutionary robotics We have state-of-the art lab facilities with a range of different robot platforms (humanoids, wheeled, and flying robots), sensors (eyetrackers, motion sensors, vision systems), and 3D printing equipment . Our research requires cross-disciplinary investigations in several areas such as machine learning, biologically inspired algorithms, psychology, computational Linguistics, computational neuroscience, and Cognitive science, among others.
